Spotting Tips
Parker Brothers Carpet Cleaning in Frisco and Plano, TX, recommends urgency when dealing with carpet stains and/or spills. Getting to the problem ASAP often determines whether the spot or stain can be removed. Treat your carpets like you would your favorite clothing. You wouldn’t leave a stain on your new shirt for weeks or months before laundering and expect it to come out.
Most homes already have everyday products that work well in emergencies and keep spills and stains from becoming permanent. Always remember to test an out of the way spot for colorfastness before attempting any spot or stain removal.
Parker Brothers offer these suggestions as a service to their customers. They make no guarantee as to the results and assume no liability for their use.
Our customers have had the best results with do-it-yourself spotting by using the following procedure and repeating as necessary. Use paper towels to blot and dispose of problems such as wine spills, sick kids or pets, kids or pet accidents, weather or grease tracked in from the yard/garage, or food spills. After you have blotted the majority of the spill/stain, flush the area with white vinegar.
Verify that you are using white vinegar. Never use red apple cider vinegar. Blot again. Use a laundry spotter, such as Shout or Spray ‘n Wash to treat the stain. Let this sit for 20 minutes. Put two inches of cold water in a scrub bucket. Add two cups of your white vinegar. Rinse the area with the vinegar solution and a mild scrub brush. The vinegar is a very effective sanitizer, which is helpful in the event of kids/pets being sick or having accidents.
Blot the area with an old terry cloth towel. Only use a towel that is color neutral so no transfer takes place. For more difficult stains, let the laundry spotter sit for additional time. See the following link to the Tide Website for other useful spotting tips.
Remember: Get to spills and stains as soon as possible, and always test for colorfastness. These simple steps can save you $$$ on carpet cleaning and help avoid permanent damage to your carpets and rugs.
Vacuum Cleaner Upkeep
The best way to get value out of your carpet cleaning is to vacuum regularly in between cleanings. Parker Brothers offers these tips:
- Check your bag or dirt receptacle on a regular basis. If it gets too full, it dramatically reduces your machines suction, thus reducing performance.
- Periodically inspect the vacuum belt. If it shows signs of wear or tearing, replace it. A worn belt also reduces performance. Should a worn belt tear, it can cause damage to your vacuum from being sucked into the fan impeller. Avoid repair costs by changing your belt as needed. Many units have diagrams instructing belt change right on the unit.
- Watch for wear on your cord. The vacuum can cause tears or cuts in the cord. Wrap these with electrical tape for safety. This prevents them from becoming worse. Cords showing extreme wear should be replaced immediately.

Last month several of our carpet cleaning customers in Frisco and Plano had small floods from frozen pipes. Recently we have had 2 small floods from kitchen appliances. Most folks want to handle smaller floods without an insurance claim. In the past carpet padding was immediately pulled out and replaced. These days carpet padding is expensive. The better padding with a moisture barrier is really expensive. If your flood was from clean water, consider drying and reusing the padding. Call us if you need help with the restoration from your small flood, or even if you just need some coaching while you are taking care of it yourself.

Use your shop vac to clean out the vacuum chamber/housing. Change the belt, change/empty the bag. Check your cord for tears or fraying. Usually these can be patched with electrical tape to extend the life of the cord. One other idea? Roll your area rugs back to inspect the pads. The City of Frisco provides curbside holiday tree recycling to its residents. Please remove any ornaments, lights, or metal supports and cut trees into sections about 4ft long and place on the curb on your regular collection day. All live trees collected will be recycled (made into compost and mulch. Flocked trees are not accepted (flocked trees are sprayed with a chemical to look like they are covered with snow). The chemical component in flocking material prevents composting of these trees. Call Frisco Environmental Services to schedule a bulk pick-up to remove your flocked tree 972-292-5900.

Holiday Tree Recycling
The City of Frisco provides curbside holiday tree recycling to all residents for their convenience. All live trees collected will be recycled (made into compost and mulch). Trees MUST comply with the following guidelines to ensure pickup:
- Do cut trees over 5 feet high into sections - no more than 4 feet in length or 60 lbs each.
- Do not cover tree with a plastic bag, as this will prevent pickup.
- Do place trees out on regular trash / recycling collection day, at edge of property, at least 3 feet from carts.
- Do remove supports (metal and wood), electrical wiring, lights, tinsel, ornaments and all other decorations.

The fabulous Ritz Carlton Hotel took advantage of the Corona virus shutdown to do some remodeling in their lobby and reception areas. Their contractor insisted on Parker Brothers Carpet Cleaning to freshen up the carpets to complete the job.

Everyone is focused on Coronavirus/Covid-19/Wuhan virus, but hot weather is here! As summer heats up for all of us, don't forget it's warmer for the pets as well. When humans get dehydrated, they can get diarrhea. Distance runners speak of getting "runner's trots". We've been experiencing our first few weeks of summer heat and humidity. Here at Parker Brothers Carpet Cleaning we have had a high number of emergency calls for pet accidents. Pets get dehydrated just as we do. Double check your pet's water dish in hot weather. We are going old school again at Parker Brothers Carpet Cleaning in Frisco, Plano! Last month we started showing up on the job with bandanas. A month into the Covid 19/Coronavirus/Wuhan Virus crisis, we are all starting to look pretty bushy. Still no barbers/beauty salons, so Brad broke out the clippers. Everybody lined up for crewcuts, just like when we were kids.
We are working a modified schedule, with heightened safety precautions and the same attention to cleanliness on each job as we have always had. Our trucks/solutions have had an anti-viral for over 20 years. We are not concerned about suppliers being out of stock on anti-virals. Our shelves are full! Please note we are contacting all customers before arriving to check for any coughs, fevers. We are all taking our temperatures to start each shift. Anybody remember Mayday?
Mayday is the perfect holiday for the COVID19/Coronavirus/Wuhan virus event here in Frisco, Plano! Who remembers making mini-May baskets with Dixie cups and pipe cleaners? On May 1st kids put them on their friends' porch, ring the bell, and run off. No contact, no risk. This is a nice little pick-me-up surprise for everyone who gets one. These steps will help state and local officials when reopening their economies, getting people back to work, and continuing to protect American lives.
